Granny Stripe crochet blanket

A year ago, I saw this pretty creation on pinterest

Granny Stripe blanket created by Lucy at Attic 24

On April 29 my Bendigo Woollen Mills 8ply cotton yarn arrived

Soft cotton, delicious colours!

My colour inspiration was from Corrie at retro mummy

From memory, my foundation chain was 198

I used a 4mm crochet hook

Once the first few rows were complete
it was an easy blanket to crochet

This was the first time I had crocheted using cotton

It was so soft to work with and didn't annoy my skin

The pattern is in UK terms!

Use the correct UK or US terminology you are used too

All up it took 11 weeks for me to complete my Granny Stripe crochet blanket

I crocheted most nights and spare moments I had during the day

It measures 169cm x 118cm

Perfect size for snuggling on the lounge with hubby or the kids

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this beautiful crochet blanket

* Inspiration for the border and edging

* I learnt how to crochet shell border stitch

* Video tutorial ~ crochet shell border stitch

My current 'work in progress' is a blue, white, grey baby blanket!

Have you recently started or finished a crochet or knitting project?

Please share!

Part 2 ~ GOMA

To continue on from Part 1 ~ Hello Korea!

On July 10 we also visited GOMA  (Gallery of Modern Art)
at South Brisbane

As part of 'Harvest' exhibition we saw

My Auntie used to work at The Big Pineapple

I remember visiting with my family when I was little

How cute are all the pineapples?

Other art pieces we saw. . .

Plastic inflatable balls artistically covered with black cord
and attached to the walls and floor

It was very cool

There were 4 balls in this hallway

Made from Corned Beef tin cans

There were 2 long wood panels with various wording painted on them

Two of our children checking out the 'Supermarket'

At a distance we thought there was a spiral of LED lights

At closer inspection it was cutlery and dried chillies

It was Beautiful

Still life: Coconut and other things 2009

by Sirous Shaghaghi, Iran

This was a very large, realistic painting

It was Stunning!

Next we saw. . .

in the Children's Art Centre

 Above the 'Kaleidoscopic Tessellations'

I love the unique lighting!

This is 'Harlequin Hallway'

an interactive multimedia experience

 Here I am

We started getting hungry and walked over the bridge to the city

One of the beautiful gardens in the Queen St Mall

Does anyone know what the white flowering plant is?

It is pretty!

On the walk to our favourite Korean restaurant

I love the wave pattern on the building

Galbijim

A spicy beef soup with mushrooms, carrot, potatoes
and sweet potato noodles served with rice

A delicious meal to warm the soul on a cold, windy day

Part 1 ~ Hello Korea!

안녕하세요 한국
                       Hello Korea!   <-- click link

On July 10 our family visited an art exhibition

I am thankful our friend Martine told us about it

We wanted to take our children, as Korea has a special place in our hearts

If you are new to following my blog
My husband and I adopted 3 children from South Korea

We try to immerse our children in as much Korean culture as is available to us
and travel back to their birth country when funds allow us too

We love visiting Korea, enjoy the culture, food (I adore)
and the friendly Korean people

So many beautiful places to see within South Korea

One day, I'll share a post of some of the amazing places we have visited there

We arrived a little early for the art exhibition,
so we walked through Southbank Parklands

It was very windy, a bit chilly!

During the art exhibition the traditional paintings have anime and cartoon
characters move through them - Bernard Bear (also known as Bbaekkom),
Robit China and Taoist Mutul, butterflies, insects, and parachutes.
Our children loved watching them appear

Watermelon and mice

Eggplant and grasshopper

Pakyon Waterfalls

Hen leading a brood of chickens

Portrait of Kang Se-hwang

A dancing boy

Party with nobleman over seventy

Painting of Plum flowers

I do not have the names of the next 4 paintings

I hope you enjoyed viewing the beautiful traditional paintings

This is 'Part 1 ~ Hello Korea' of our Art experience

Have a lovely weekend!
